‘Kuch bhi…’: Anupam Kher reacts to news that his face replaced Mahatma Gandhi on Rs 500 notes!

Fake Rs 500 notes featuring Bollywood actor Anupam Kher’s face in place of Mahatma Gandhi’s have been seized in Gujarat. The counterfeit currency, worth Rs 1.60 crore, came to light after an Ahmedabad bullion trader was duped in a gold scam.

The scam also included a funny typo on the notes, which read “Resole Bank of India” instead of the usual “Reserve Bank of India.”

According to reports, the incident took place when Mehul Thakkar, who runs a bullion firm, sent his employee to deliver 2,100 grams of gold to two buyers. In exchange, the employee was given Rs 1.3 crore in cash, with the promise of Rs 30 lakh to follow. However, on opening the package, they discovered it contained fake currency with Anupam Kher’s picture instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s. The buyers had fled with the gold by the time the scam was uncovered.

Responding to the news, Kher reacted with humor. He shared a clip of the news on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Come on, talk it out! My photo instead of Gandhi’s photo on the five hundred rupee note???? Anything can happen!” His post quickly gained attention online.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating the case, reviewing CCTV footage to track down the suspects, who set up a temporary office just days before the scam.

Though the investigation is ongoing, the use of Kher’s image on fake currency has added an unexpected twist to an otherwise serious crime.
