Kaup: Shravan Kumar, a resident of Kudla, has started a 6,000 kilometres long journey from Mangaluru to Manipur to raise public awareness on environmental issues and Miyawaki forests.
Kumar, a member of Mangaluru’s Lalbagh JCI and a cyclist, intends to start a new green revolution with his endeavour which he has named ‘Pedal For Green.’
He plans to cover 50 to 60 kilometres per day.
On Monday evening he reached Kaup and started onwards to Kundapura.
Kumar will be travelling across 10 States and pass through many cities including Mumbai, Nagpur, Jhansi, Haridwar, Varanasi, Lucknow, Manipur and Imphal.
Kumar had in 2018 cycled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari covering 10,000 kilometres to create awareness among people on cleanliness, use of garbage bins and proper disposal of waste plastic.
He had stopped his engineering studies and started working in sales to follow his cycling passion.
The Lalbagh JCI and Mangaluru Rotary have partnered with Kumar in his present cycle journey.
“The main purpose of my cycle tour is to inspire people to plant more trees, grow indigenous plants, grow Miyawaki forests and also raise awareness on important issues such as organic farming and rainwater harvesting. The Miyawaki system, improves the quality of the land and also alleviates problems faced by animals, birds and butterflies,” said Shravan Kumar.
