Kukkipadi:  A 25-year-old woman, in her complaint with police, stated that her husband and in-laws have been torturing her to bring dowry from her parents.

Shilpi Chasa (25), who originally hails from Assam and Kiran Lobo (32), a resident of Kapigudde, Kukkipadi village got married in 2021.

Shilpi has named  her husband Kiran Lobo, Rita Lobo, Hilda Lobo, Ida Lobo and Walter Lobo in her complaint.

The complainant stated that in the first year of marriage, she was harassed over petty issues and was often taunted that she had not got anything from her parents’ house in dowry.

She further said, soon after the wedding, Shilpi’s parents arranged a dinner party in her hometown Assam. But, her husband’s family demanded Rs 50,000 to go to the dinner party.

Shilpi then borrowed money from her mother and elder sister to give to her husband. However, they continued to torture her for more money.

She has also accused Walter Lobo of pressuring her to send her nude photos.

Shilpi claims that she became pregnant twice but they took her to a doctor in Siddhakatte who gave her pills to terminate her pregnancy.

On October 4, 5, Shilpi was assaulted and threatened by her in-laws after which her family came to Mangalore and admitted her to a nearby hospital.

A case has been registered against her husband and in-laws.
