Kumaradhara and Nethravati Rivers swell as heavy rains pound DK

Major rivers in Dakshina Kannada – Nethravati and Kumaradhara – are in spate on Sunday after a long spell of heavy downpours.
Heavy rains in the upstream Ghat areas including Subrahmanya, Kollamogru, Bisile, Addahole, Somwarpet etc, have caused the Kumaradhara river to swell. The river was overflowing in Subrahmanya.
Flood waters submerged a section of the Manjeshwar-Subrahmanya State Highway, causing traffic disruptions. Traffic on the highway has been prohibited until further notice as a safety precaution.
The bathing ghat at Subrahmanya has been completely flooded. Flood water entered the luggage room and toilet at the ghat. have continued to receive heavy rains and the water level in the Kumaradhara river has risen.
Nethravati flowing close to danger level
The water level of the Netravati River has seen a significant rise and currently reached 7 m in Bantwal. The threat of a flood looms large as the danger level is 8.5 meters for the river.
Bantwal MLA U Rajesh Naik has instructed the officials not to leave their posts for any reason for repsonding quickly to emergency situations.
