Kundapura: Anoop D’Costa to lead Karnataka senior volleyball team at national tourney

Kundapura: Local lad Anoop D’Costa has been named the captain of the Karnataka Senior team at the  71st National Volleyball Tournament to be held from February 8 in Guwahati.

Besides Anoop, Chandan Acharya from Koteshwar and Naveed Khan of Bhatkal also have found a place in the 12- member Karnataka squad that has left for Guwahati.

Anoop D’Costa, a resident of Hangalore here, is currently employed in the Income Tax Department at Hyderabad.

Considered to be one of the highest jumpers, D’Costa is the mainstay of the team as an all-rounder.

D’Costa has represented the country as captain of the Indian junior volleyball team, as a player of the Indian senior team, and also has been representing the Karnataka team for the last 15 years. He has the distinction of playing for the Karnataka team in the national volleyball tournament 13 times.

This is the first time D’Costa has got the opportunity to lead the Karnataka team in a national tournament.
