Kundapura: Boats capsized due to rain, six fishermen rescued

Kundapura: Two traditional boats capsized on Sunday, September 5 in separate events.
The incidents occurred at Kanchugodu and Trasi, Hosapete.
Six fishermen were rescued in the above-mentioned incidents.
The first incident happened as three fishermen were returning from the sea on ‘Omkara Prasanna’ boat belonging to Rama Kharvi and as the weather deteriorated with heavy rains, the boat capsized near Kanchugodu shore.
Fishermen present nearby rushed immediately to help them and were successful in rescuing the three fishermen.
The rescued have been identified as Rama Kharvi (65), Nagaraj Kharvi (38), and Vinay Kharvi (30).
As the boat’s engine, fishing net, and other materials in the boat sank, a total loss of Rs 5 lakh has been estimated.
The second incident occurred in Trasi, Hosapete and three fishermen were rescued. The rescued have been identified as Naga Kharvi(54) of Hosapete, Nithyananda Kharvi (47) of Bhagath Nagar in Hosanadu, and Roshan (37) of Gujjadi.
The three went fishing on ‘Yaksheshwari Anugraha’ boat. The boat capsized at around 7.30 pm. Trio were rescued by fishermen in another boat.
A total loss of Rs 3 lakh has been estimated.
