Kundapura: 2 interstate thieves arrested, Rs 16 lakh worth stolen ornaments recovered

Kundapura: Stolen jewellery worth Rs 16 lakhs that was sold by two ‘habitual thieves’ was recovered from a jewellery shop in Manjeshwar in Kerala, Kundapura police said.
The accused — identified as Hashim A H (42) of Periya, Kasaragod and Aboobaker Siddiq (48) of Manjeshwar — had been arrested in December 2022 for burglary at a house in Kundapur.
During the course of interrogation, police said, the accused confessed to having burgled houses in Udupi town, Malpe and Kundapur police station limits. They also told police that they had disposed of the stolen goods by selling them at a jewellery shop in Manjeshwar.
Following this, 300-gram gold, 1,481-gram silver ornaments have been recovered from the jewellery shop, police added.
The duo had been arrested for the theft at the residence of Prasanna Narayana Acharya in Kundapur which took place on September 7, 2022.
Police said both were notorious interstate thieves who burgled at various places in Kerala and Dakshina Kannada district. Both accused continue to be in Judicial custody, police added.
