Kundapura: Another batch of sea turtle eggs were found near Kodi beach lighthouse on Tuesday and rescued by the locals.
Eggs have already been found on January 21 and 24.
At 6:30 am local fishermen Babu Mogaveera and Ganapati Kharvi found the eggs about 50 meters away from the spot where eggs were found earlier.
The mother turtle that laid the eggs was caught in a fishing net and was rescued.
Information about the find was shared with Clean Kundapura Project and FSL India.
Kodi Beach has been cleaned by the Clean Kundapur Project, FSL India and volunteers from the past 78 weeks. As a result of this, turtles have been laying eggs on the cleaned seashore.
The Forest Department congratulated and encouraged those who are protecting the eggs. Mangaluru DyCP Hariram Shankar also congratulated the locals in a phone call.
It is a cause of happiness that after three years the turtles are laying eggs on the beach here. Some mother turtles get caught in the fishing net when they return after laying eggs. Therefore, fishing nets should be laid with caution in this area, urged FSL India.
