Ullal: In a noble gesture, the family of a young man who was injured in a road accident decided to donate his organs after doctors declared him brain dead.

Bhushan Rai, a resident of Sevanthigeguthu in Thokkottu, was seriously injured in a bike accident near Kutthar temple on Saturday night.  He was returning after participating in the Kallapu Burdugoli Kola when the accident occurred.

He was rushed to Yenepoya Hospital in Deralakatte and from there he was referred to KMC Hospital in Mangaluru for treatment. However, doctors there declared him brain dead.

Following the diagnosis, the family agreed to donate Rai’s organs. Bhushan stayed with his mother. His father died about 3 months ago due to ill health. His sister’s wedding had taken place only about 2 weeks ago.

Mangaluru South traffic police have registered a case.
