Mangaluru: A private Indigo flight from Kuwait to Mangaluru on Saturday, June 27 was cancelled at the last moment. 164 passengers to board the flight are now stranded at the Kuwait airport.
Most of the passengers had emptied their residences at Kuwait and kept with them money required for the travel and transferring the rest to their NRI accounts back home. As they have no homes to go back to they are now stranded at the airport.
An engineer passenger speaking to Udayavni said that when he called the Mangaluru airport authorities they said there is no problem from them for landing. Later when he called the Deputy Commissioner’s office they said that as the State government had not given the permission for the flight it had to be cancelled.
The engineer further stated that the permission for the flight must come from the State government’s Nodal Officer, it is not known why the permission was not given.
The request for permission could only be received on Monday or after, he added.
