  • No clearance letter from fire department

Mangaluru: Although it is ready to start providing service, it is not being possible to open the newly constructed building of the Lady Goshen hospital for the use of the public on the backdrop of not having received a clearance certificate from the fire department regarding the buildings security. Hence, the hospital will only start function post the receiving of the clearance certificate.

All the work on the new building of Lady Goshen hospital have been completed and it only remains to be inaugurated. Already, most of the equipment required for medical service has been relocated. Besides, the treatment for normal labour mothers is already being provided on the first floor of the hospital since the month of June. But, the clearance certificate from the fire department in connection to the security of the building is a pre-requisite for functioning of the other departments at the hospital. In the backdrop of not having received the clearance certificate, it is impossible to use the new building to provide service. A letter has been sent from Mangaluru to Bengaluru fire brigade office on January 29th regarding the inspection of the facilities installed at the hospital as precautionary measures for fire contingencies. The report will be inspected there after which the certificate is provided. But it has not yet come. In this backdrop the inauguration of the new building of the hospital has delayed.

Time is required

The new building of the hospital has an ICU. Besides, there are electrical machines which have been installed here and without the certificate, they cannot be used. When the medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Savita was contacted in this connection she replied, “Time is required for the inspection of the report. The certificate may be issued in a few days. On receiving the certificate, the hospital will be thrown open for the public,” she said.

Multiple delays in opening for the public

Every time during a meeting, inspection, the concerned people always say that the building will be opened for the public. It was said that the hospital would be handed over for the public in the month of March 2017, but it did not happen. Later it was said that it would be opened for the public in 2018 June, July, December but the opportunity never arrived.

May require a month

“The request letter in connection for the clearance letter for the fire safety system at Lady Goshen hospital has been just received and has been forwarded for approval to the DIG. Soon after the fee is paid through a challan, the clearance certificate will be issued. It will take a period of a month for this process,” said Shivakumar, Assistant Director, Fire Brigade Office, Bengaluru
