Mangaluru: “MCC will not be collecting waste from large scale waste-generators in the future and all larger scale waste-generators should set up waste-processing units in their premises by the end of October and they should hand over dry waste to MCC recognized agencies,” said Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde speaking to media on Friday Oct 11th.
“Educational institutions, hostels, small industries, apartments, hotels, restaurants, marriage halls, catering services, merchants, chicken stalls and other such large waste-generators have also been asked to hand over dry waste to the authorized recycling agencies. Details regarding the authorized recycling agencies will be published on MCC’s website soon,” he informed.
Solid Waste Management Workshop
“MCC has already held a workshop on Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, exclusively for large waste-generators. They have also been provided information on waste-processing technology that is available on the market through another workshop. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the government to submit compliance reports concerning the implementation of rules once in three months. Accordingly, the government has directed all urban local bodies in the state to strictly implement the rules,” he explained.
