Last rites of Captain MV Pranjal held; Thousands bid tearful adieu to martyr

Bengaluru: The last rites of Captain MV Pranjal, who succumbed in a gunfight with militants in Kashmir’s Rajouri, were held with full military honours on Saturday. A vast multitude gathered to pay their respects to the departed hero.

During the final procession, thousands showered flowers and chanted “Amar Rahe ..Amar Rahe Captain Pranjal,” reflecting the profound reverence for the fallen soldier.

The 29-year-old from 63 Rashtriya Rifles lost his life during an exchange of fire with terrorists in the Rajouri sector on Wednesday.

The mortal remains of Capt Pranjal arrived in Bengaluru on Friday. Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister KJ George paid their last respects to martyr Pranjal at HAL Airport after his remains arrived here.

Earlier in the day, mourners filed past the body of Capt Pranjal and paid tributes. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and Bangalore Rural MP D K Suresh were among those who paid homage to the departed soul and offered condolences to the bereaved family today.

After a wreath-laying ceremony, Pranjal was accorded a guard of honour by the Army and the state government.

His mortal remains were taken in a procession to a crematorium in Kudlu Gate, where the last rites were held.
