Last Rites on Banks of Cauvery to Make Another River Ganga in Karnataka?

Mysuru: A video of the last rites of a local on the banks of Cauvery River in Talakadu gone viral in social media. The act has attracted severe criticism from the public as Cauvery water is being supplied to Mysuru, Mandya and Bengaluru regions for drinking purpose.Conducting last rites in large number on the banks of the river may turn holy Cauvery into another Ganga in Karnataka, people opine. 

However, the locals, reacting to the video, said conducting last rites of the locals on the banks of Cauvery is a traditions here in Talakadu. If the dead body burnt as per the last rites of a particular community, then the remains usually thrown into the river, the locals added. Meanwhile, speaking on alleged incident, Mysuru district administration said it doesn’t has any information on the incident.
