Legal twist: Mangaluru woman loses alimony after husband exposes her second marriage

The Family Court in Mangaluru has revoked the alimony awarded to a woman who remarried without informing her first husband while their divorce case was still in progress.
In 2018, Udaya Nayak, residing in Panakaje Mandadi, tied the knot with Anita Nayak from Maryhill. However, marital differences led to divorce proceedings initiated by the couple. Amid this legal process, Udaya Nayak filed a private complaint in the CJ and JMFC court of Beltangady, accusing Anita of entering into a second marriage secretly.
While the divorce case was ongoing, Anita Nayak filed a lawsuit seeking alimony. Following a court order, Udaya complied by providing a Demand Draft of Rs 15,000.
In a surprising twist, Udaya Nayak, playing the role of an investigator, unearthed evidence of his wife’s second marriage. He came across a public notice in the Maharashtra Gazette, revealing Anita’s marriage to Harikrishna Ganapat Rao Keelu in Dombivili, Mumbai, on March 13, 2023.
Presenting the Maharashtra Gazette and photos of Anita and her second husband, Udaya Nayak submitted the evidence to the Family Court in Mangaluru. After reviewing the documents, the chief judge acknowledged the findings and annulled the alimony granted to Anita Nayak.
