Mangaluru: Days after city police seized 2,500 kg of beef that was being transported illegally to Mangaluru from Hubballi, Mayor Divakar has directed the 20-odd meat stalls in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) jurisdiction not to sell meat procured from other districts or states.
The stalls have been directed to procure meat only from the authorised slaughterhouse in the city and maintain records of the purchase bills. The license of stalls, that are found to be selling meat procured from places other than authorised source will be cancelled, warned the Mayor.
Divakar also added that cattle should be transported to the slaughterhouse in vehicles that have special permission from the RTO.
In yet another case, police had recently seized beef that was being illegally transported in a milk delivery van into the city from Hassan.
