Mangaluru: India is now under a lockdown, as a result of which thousands of letters are pending at the post offices in Dakshina Kannada.

Out of 542 offices in the district, only 8 are functioning and the only post office opened in the district facilitates the withdrawal of funds.

There are a total of 53 departmental offices and 96 branch offices in Mangalore Taluk and about 4,000 general postcards and 1,000 Registrar and Speed Posts are pending in the office.

Also, there are a total of 393 post offices in the Puttur division and only a few post offices are open in this section. About 48 postal bags are pending and there are about 200-300 postcards in each bag.

Around 89,000 customers pay the MESCOM bill every month at post offices in Mangalore, Puttur and Udupi. But, now people are facing trouble paying their MESCOM bills.

There are a total of 149 post offices in the Puttur and Mangaluru sections, out of which Pandeshwar, Kulasekhara and Ganjimutt post offices are open. Similarly, in the Puttur division, post offices in Puttur, Sulya, Karkala and Moodbidri are currently operating.

The Post Office Emergency Service will only facilitate withdrawal of the funds and in the coming days, the pending letters will be delivered.
