New Delhi: Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Monday as a mark of respect for sitting member Ramchandra Paswan who passed away.

Speaker Om Birla led the House in expressing condolence over the passing away of Paswan and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit.

Dixit, who had also been a Lok Sabha member, died on Saturday last.

The members expressed their condolence and stood in silence for a while.

Opposition members, including from the Congress, protested after Birla said the House has been adjourned till 2 pm.

Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury urged the Speaker not to do away with tradition and said the House should be adjourned for the day.

Traditionally, proceedings are adjourned for the day when a sitting member passes away when the House is in session.
