Ullal: Based on the viral video, traffic police have booked the woman pedestrian, who narrowly escaped from being crushed under bus wheels.
It may be recalled that the bus driver’s presence of mind helped save a woman pedestrian’s life in Naringana near Taudugoli. A video of this incident has gone viral on social media. In the video, the woman can be seen crossing the road without noticing the bus coming from the opposite direction.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain informed the media that a case has been registered against the woman under the Karnataka Traffic Control Rules, 1979, and a fine has been collected for crossing the road negligently.
Earlier on Thursday, ADGP Alok Kumar said that the police would be invoking action against the woman. “There is no specific provision against Jaywalking under Indian Motor Vehicle Act However as a deterrence we are invoking the provisions of Karnataka Traffic Control Rules 1979, against the female pedestrian for being negligent while crossing the road,” he wrote in a tweet.
“FIR has also been registered against the driver for Rash & Dangerous driving,” he said in another post on Twitter.
