Chikkamagaluru: A police investigation has revealed that a love rivalry was behind the recent horrific accident on bypass road in Chikkamagaluru.
A motorbike-borne youth, identified as Nakul, had been knocked down by a car, which fled the scene as people gathered. The visuals of the accident had gone viral on social media.
The police investigation has revealed that the ‘accident’ was orchestrated to exact revenge in a love rivalry by the victim’s friend-turned-foe, identified as Ankit.
During interrogation, Ankit had reportedly revealed that he and Nakul, both residents of Kalyannagar in Chikkamagaluru city, were friends. They were apparently in love with the same girl, which led to a rivalry between them. They had fought over the matter a few months back.
Ankit hatched a plan to kill Nakul and planned the elaborate “road accident”. On the night of August 14, Ankit called Nakul to a spot near Nariguddenahalli for a conversation. As soon as Nakul arrived at the spot Ankit, who was driving a car, knocked him down. The bike caught fire due to the impact.
The horrific scene was caught on CCTV camera whose footage was widely shared on social media.
Nakul who is seriously injured is being treated at the Mallegowda Government District Hospital.
Meanwhile, the city police have registered a case and arrested Ankit. Further investigations are underway.
