Lowlands inundated after all gates of Kadra dam opened

Karwar: All six gates of the Kadra dam’s have been opened after the water level in the reservoir crossed its maximum limits.
People residing at Anekattu near Kadra have been evacuated and the residents at the riverbanks are being instructed by KPC officials and the PDO over speakers to be alert.
Heavy rains have lashed the district over the past three days and continue to do so even today (August 5). Many trees and electric wire poles have been uprooted and residents scared as a result of this wrecking weather.
The Meteorological Department had issued forecasts of heavy rains till August 8. Red Alert has also been announced in the district.
Boats that were parked on shore and in the harbour have been damaged by the strong waves. The Fisheries Department has instructed fishermen not to go into the sea for fishing.
About 3 to 3.6-meter high tidal waves were seen on the beaches here on Wednesday morning. Most of the rivers are overflowing submerging low lying areas while the Gangavali river has submerged the NH 63 near Sunkasala. Vehicles have been diverted to the Yellapura and Sirsi routes.
