LS polls: 16,97,417 voters to cast their votes this election

  • District administration gears up for LS polls

Mangaluru: A total of 16,97.417 voters will be casting their votes at the upcoming Lok Sabha (LS) elections, announced Dakshina Kannada district administration on Wednesday January 16. Of the total voters, 8,33,719 are male voters and 8,63,698 are female voters.

Speaking to media DK deputy commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil informed that even though the voters list for the LS elections has been released, one can approach the Booth Level Officers (BLO’s) for addition and deletion of names from the list until the dates for the election are announced by the election commission.

This times election will have a total of 1891 polling booths with the addition of 71 new polling booths. The total polling booths during the last assembly elections was 1790. During the last assembly elections, the number of voters was 16,98,868, but this time, the number has slightly reduced to 16,97,417. The reason behind the drop in the number of voters is the deletion of names of the voters. The public can contact through toll-free number 1950 regarding information on the election, polling booths and on addition and deletion of voter’s name.

Jan 25th National Voter’s Day

As Jan 25th is the National Voter’s Day, a district leve; national voter’s day programme will be celebrated at Town Hall on the day and voters ID card will be distributed to the new voters. A total of 21,292 young voters have been added this time, informed the DC.
