Bengaluru: Hundreds of fans of incumbent MP from Mandya Sumalatha Ambareesh, in front of Sumalatha’s JP Nagar residence on Saturday, urged her to contest again as an independent candidate from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.

To the request, Sumalatha said: “I have no intention to hurt you. I will hold a meeting in Mandya on April 3 and inform you of my decision.” This has further aroused interest in political circles.

“BJP had offered me to contest in another constituency, but the people of Mandya are my strength. I was able to win the last election without the support of influential people, because of the love shown by the people of Mandya to Ambareesh,” she said.

“So far, I have walked the talk. I have served Mandya as honestly as possible and upheld the dignity of the district in the Parliament. My relationship with Mandya is not just political, it is emotional and loving. Its my selfishness that I want Mandya,” she said hinting at the possibility of her entering the fray as an independent candidate.

“Everything comes and goes in politics. But, my decision rests with the will of the people of Mandya. There is some discussion to be done,” she said.
