In a significant shift for Karnataka’s BJP leadership, ‘Karnataka mai sab teek nahi hai’ statement from a party Big wig has prompted a strategic rethink amidst assumptions of riding solely on the Modi wave for electoral victories.
Under the leadership of BJP state president BY Vijayendra, the state BJP has revamped its office bearers, infusing fresh faces into the organizational structure, and garnering some momentum.
However, reliance solely on Modi’s charisma is no longer deemed sufficient, as highlighted by senior party members concerned about escalating political challenges in Karnataka.
Top BJP sources reveal intense competition, particularly in nine key constituencies, potentially expanding to eleven. Despite outward displays of confidence in securing all 28 seats, internal dynamics paint a different picture.
The internal survey conducted by JDS echoes dissatisfaction, particularly in Old Mysore, raising alarm bells for the alliance.
In the crucial Mandya constituency, BJP strategists pin their hopes on fielding HD Kumaraswamy, yet the former Chief Minister shows no inclination towards parliamentary pursuits, complicating candidate selection.
The BJP’s internal assessment identifies Bidar, Bellary, Raichur, Koppal, Davangere, Haveri, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, and Mandya as high-risk constituencies. Additionally, Chitradurga, Bengaluru Central, and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru face a moderate crisis, leaving the party grappling with challenges across the state.
Sources indicate impending candidate changes in Haveri and Davangere, while hesitancy persists in constituencies where defeat looms large. Even traditional strongholds witness murmurs of candidate replacements due to localized factors.
