Mangaluru: As a precautionary measure to control Lumpy Skin Disease, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has temporarily banned cattle transportation from outside the district.
In an order, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V said that cattle transportation from outside the district including the neighboring state of Kerala will be banned from October 20. The ban will be in effect till October 30.
Lumpy skin disease is a viral disease that affects cattle. A few days ago the state government had said that more than 2,000 cattle had died due to the dreaded infection.
Apart from the transportation ban, gram panchayats have been instructed to increase vigilance and to take measures such as fogging to control flies and mosquitoes.
