Udupi: Paryaya Palimaru Mutt seer Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami took a historical decision by banning two traditionally practised rituals,’Made snana’ and ‘Ede snana’ at the temple premises here.

Made snana is a ritual wherein devotees roll over the soiled plantain leaves and in Ede snana devotees were supposed to roll over the plantain leaves which had prasadam on it. Both these practices were done within the premises of the temple.

On the occasion of Shashti celebrations organised at Subhramanya temple inside Krishna temple, Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami told the reporters, “I have taken the firm decision of banning ‘Made snana’ and ‘Ede snana’ in the premises of Sri Krishna temple. I have taken this decision as per the guidance of Pejawara mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami.”

Seer also said that these practices were creating confusions among the devotees since a very long time and there have been many controversies surrounding this. Now, the ban will put an end to the long-lasting controversies, he added.

Initially, Made snana was there in the Subhramanya temple inside Krishna temple and later after several controversies, it was replaced by Ede snana, however devotees expressed displeasure in rolling through the prasadam and they started rolling on the bare floor.

Pejawara Sri lauded the decision of Palimaru Sri and said, “Ban of both rituals will not impact or harm the Hinduism in any manner and these practices are not important to be performed in the temple.”

“The number of devotees performing Ede snana has reduced nowadays. Performing pujas is more important than following controversial rituals. The decision of banning the rituals is a wise one and I welcome it,” he added
