Madikeri: Police, on November 10, detained prominent Hindu activists for congregating when prohibitory orders were in effect.
The activists had come to the Sri Omkareshwar Temple in Madikeri for offering the “Shanti Puja” in memory of Kuttappa, who died during an untoward incident on Tipu Jayanti in 2015. The police herded the activists into vans as they came out of the temple.
VHP Madikeri taluk President Suresh Muttappa and activists of Hindu Jagarana Vedike have been detained.
Police also detained BJP leaders, municipal council members, and prominent Hindu activists who held a meeting in Sri Chaudeshwari Temple hall in memory of Kuttappa.
Among the detained were BJP leader Robin Devaiah, Manu Manjunath, municipal council president Anita Poovayya, municipal council vice-president Savita Rakesh, and others.
The district administration had issued prohibitory orders for today under section 144 across the Kodagu district to maintain peace and order.
