Madikeri: Robbers bind women and flee with Rs 2.5 lakh cash, gold

Madikeri: Two elderly women, living at Bommanjigeri in Kolakeri village near Napoklu were tied up and robbed of cash and jewelry by robbers who barged into their home on Monday night.
Four robbers broke into the house where Vanjanda Janaki (78) and her sister Ammakki (68) lived. The thieves bound the women’s hands and legs and confined them to a room in their house while they ransacked the house for valuables.
The robbery came to light when the victims narrated their ordeal to their brother, a retired judge living in Bengaluru who informed the police. Napoklu police visited the spot and took the women to the Napoklu Community Health Centre and recorded their statements.
According to the complaint, the thieves threatened to kill the women who were let go after pleading for mercy. Robbers fled from the spot with Rs 2.5 lakh cash and 83-gram gold jewelry.
Police who inspected the spot found that the thieves had a party near the house.
