Madikeri: An incident of a cow being shot dead was reported from the Kaggodlu village in the taluk here.

Soon after the incident, which took place at 7 pm on Tuesday, more than 50 workers from the Hindu Jagarana Vedike arrived in the village.

It was reported that the perpetrators escaped after threatening at gunpoint one of the first Vedike members to arrive at the spot.

A tense situation prevails in the village now.

Madikeri rural police station officials visited the place and seized the carcass and a knife from the spot.

Leaders of the Vedike have expressed outrage that the police has failed to prevent such incidents which have become a regular occurrence.

Last week too a cow belonging to a farmer in the village was shot dead and taken away for its meat.
