Madikeri: Tourists entry banned at Dubare Elephant Camp after wild tusker attack

Madikeri: A lone wild tusker in musth attacked and seriously injured an elephant at the Dubare Elephant Camp. Following the incident, tourists’ entry to the elephant camp has been banned for 2 days.

Gopi, an elephant in captivity at the camp, which was injured by the bull elephant, is receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, forest officials said that wild elephant continues to roam in an area close to the Elephant camp. For safety and security reasons, tourists’ entry into Dubare has been prohibited, they added.

Madikeri Division Deputy Conservator of Forests A.T. Poovayya, Somwarpet Assistant Forest Conservator Gopal, and Kushalanagar Zonal Forest Officer K.V. Shivaram have reached Dubare. An operation to drive the tusker back into the forest is underway.
