Madrassas in Karnataka should teach Kannada, English: Minister Zameer Ahmed

Bengaluru: In a significant step, Minorities Welfare and Wakf Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan has instructed madrassas in the state to teach Science, Mathematics, Kannada, and English subjects to students.
Zameer Ahmed Khan chaired a progress review meeting at the Directorate of Minorities Welfare, where he directed officials to include a diverse curriculum in madrassas.
He stressed that Kannada would be taught compulsorily to enrich the linguistic abilities of students. This move aims to offer a comprehensive education that prepares students for a wider range of future opportunities.
Currently, there are 1,265 madrassas registered with the Wakf Board in the state. The minister instructed to initiate a pilot program in approximately 100 of these madrassas, reaching around 5,000 students in this academic year.
He told the officials that a proposal should be prepared to introduce these subjects in all madrasas from the next academic year.
At the same time, the minister released the handbook of various subjects including science and mathematics prepared to improve the learning quality of one lakh students of classes 9, 10, and 12 of Morarji Desai Residential School and College and Maulana Azad Model Schools under the Directorate of Minority Welfare.
