Malpe: A young tourist sustained minor injuries while parasailing on a winch boat at Malpe Beach on Friday.

The injured, Ikshyan Chowdhury (12) from Bengaluru, fell from a height of approximately 10 meters, prompting concerns over safety protocols during adventure activities.

The boy was rushed to a private hospital in Udupi, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Reportedly, the accident occurred amidst the operation of boat trips and adventure sports newly introduced for tourists visiting Malpe Beach. Many alleged that the absence of adequate safety measures led to the accident.

Concerns have surfaced regarding the conduct of the adventure activities, with allegations suggesting that the boat trips may have exceeded their capacity, potentially compromising the safety of passengers. In a formal complaint, Subhash Naik urged the Udupi Deputy Commissioner to launch an investigation into such reported irregularities and take necessary measures against any unlawful practices.

It is said that MLA Yashpal Suvarna, during a recent Malpe Development Committee meeting, pointed out a lack of emphasis on ensuring tourists’ safety to the Deputy Commissioner.
