Late Saturday night in Udupi, an accused individual involved in a ganja case allegedly attempted to assault police officer and a home guard staff.
The incident occurred when woman PSI Sushma and Home Guard staff Javed of Malpe police station were on night rounds duty. They were patrolling in the department vehicle at around 11 pm.
Their patrol took them through areas such as Thottam, Gujjarabettu, Kadike, and Badanidiyur, eventually arriving at Hoode around 2:15 am. There, they encountered a group of 4-5 individuals engaged in a heated argument near Hoode school.
Upon spotting the police, 2-3 individuals fled the scene while two others approached the police jeep, threatening to attack the officials. One of them was identified as Saklain, a suspect in the ganja case. Saklain, accompanied by another individual, brandished a large stone and a rod, menacingly declaring his intent to harm the officers.
In a confrontation, Saklain struck the departmental jeep’s glass with his hand, causing damage. A stone thrown at the woman PSI missed the target and hit the window pane of the police jeep. Subsequently, the accused hurled another stone, prompting the PSI and Home Guard to flee the scene for their safety.
A case has been registered at the Malpe Police Station regarding the incident.
