Malpe: Boat fans, stored at several garages here for repair, were stolen on Sunday night. The theft was recorded on CCTV cameras.

The theft was detected at 3 garages in Malpe. Four men are seen loading the boat fans along with the shafts from the 3 garages. Thieves took away 3 fans worth a total of Rs 4 lakhs.

Ganesh Suvarna, a boat owner, said that the theft seems premeditated. Thieves were well aware that the garages would be closed on Sunday and that it would be easy to take away the heavy machinery stored outside the garages without arousing suspicion, he said.

Fishermen at the port have expressed their displeasure that the theft of boats in the Malpe fishing harbor has been increasing of late. None has been arrested, they lamented.
