Malpe: The persistent sewage problem outside the government pre-university college near Malpe Fisheries College has finally been resolved after nearly 7-8 years, bringing relief to students and staff.

For years, students from Class 1 to II PUC at the institution had to endure foul smells and cross unsanitary conditions to enter the campus, as sewage water flowed along the boundary wall. The unhygienic environment resulted in a rise in mosquitoes and raised concerns of infectious diseases. The school administration had filed multiple complaints regarding the issue, as students struggled to study in such adverse conditions.

The issue gained attention following an report published by Udayavani Sudina on November 5. The report prompted Udupi City Municipality to act immediately, and the sewage pipes discharging wastewater into the drain were removed the same day. Measures were taken to prevent sewage from entering the campus area, allowing students to study without exposure to foul smells.

The college community expressed gratitude to both the municipality and Udayavani for addressing the issue.

Speaking on the matter, Prabhakar Poojary, President of Udupi Municipality, said, “Upon receiving information, we sent health officials to inspect and resolved the sewage issue by disconnecting most pipes from the rainwater drain. Further actions will be taken against those responsible. We request public cooperation in our efforts to protect the environment.”
