New Delhi/ Bengaluru: The BJP hurried an appointment to Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday to clarify that its IT Cell leader Amit Malviya’s tweet on the Karnataka Legislative Assembly election dates depended on a news channel’s report and a state Congress office-bearer too had likewise tweeted about it.

The Congress portrayed Malviya’s tweet as BJP turning into the “Super Election Commission” as they declared poll dates for Karnataka even before the Election Commission. Its central representative Randeep Surjewala tweeted, “The validity of EC is on test. Will EC now issue notice to BJP President Amit Shah and enroll a FIR against BJP IT Head for leaking EC’s confidential data?”

In a letter to the EC, Malviya clarified that his “source of data” was a news break by an English news channel at 11.06 am and he tweeted about it at 11.08 am. He likewise asserted that a Karnataka Congress functionary also tweeted about the poll dates precisely in the meantime.
