New Delhi: A 34-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly raping a minor girl in southwest Delhi’s Rangapahari area, police said.

The 11-year-old was allegedly raped when she had gone to relieve herself in a forest area in the locality on Wednesday, they said.

The accused, identified as Prakash, a ragpicker, was arrested from the Nala camp area this morning and will be produced in court, officials said.

The incident was reported to police yesterday, following which a case was registered, a senior officer said, adding that the minor victim was being counselled.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, who runs a small shop, she was with him on Wednesday and had gone to relieve herself in a forest area nearby.

After some time, locals informed him that his daughter had been found near the forest area with her clothes torn, police said citing the complaint.

The complainant took her home first and later, to a hospital and subsequently, the police were informed.

The girl’s father said they did not have a washroom in the house and the toilets in the area were not safe as they are frequented by suspicious elements.
