Man assaults wife brutally consumes poison later

Mangaluru: In a shocking instance, a man attempted to end his life by consuming poison shortly after he brutally assaulted his wife at their residence at Karambaru near Bajpe on Tuesday, January 22 evening.
The man, Sandesh Shetty and his wife Shubhavani who sustained critical injuries in the assault stand admitted to a hospital.
As per reports, Shubhavani had been staying at her maternal home after some differences emerged between the couple two months back. It is gathered that Shubhavani had lent the money to Sandesh to acquire the flat and the couple had some misunderstanding over the same.
On Tuesday afternoon, Shubhavani, along with her daughter had arrived at their residence and an argument took place between the couple. An agitated Sandesh is then said to have assaulted Shubhavani with a sickle, critically injuring her. A profusely bleeding Shubhavani was admitted to a private hospital.
A remorseful Sandesh later consumed poison himself. He has been admitted to Wenlock Hospital.
Bajpe police have registered a case.
