Bengaluru: In a shocking case, a 28-year-old youth took to online fraud and cheated several people after having lost Rs 5000 to a fraudster on OLX.
Police arrested the youth, identified as N Manjunath a resident of Kaveri Nagar and seized Rs 19 lakh worth of valuables, including gold jewellery, a car, and a motorbike from his possession.
As per reports, Manjunath had responded to an advertisement on OLX for sale of a mobile phone. The seller had asked Manjunath to pay Rs 5,000 upfront for the phone whereafter he became unreachable.
After this bitter experience, Manjunath decided to cheat others. He would post photos of himself posing with cars looking for a prospective buyer on the online marketplace. For this purpose he set up several OLX accounts under random names.
Police said that Manjunath had just taken the pictures of the cars from some showrooms of used automobiles. He also took photocopies of car documents and uploaded them to OLX.
Apart from this he also duped youngsters by promising them lucrative jobs. He would use documents submitted by these youths to buy SIM cards that he mentioned in his OLX accounts.
