Man gets 10 years in prison for smuggling poppy husk

Rajgarh (MP): A special court here has awarded 10-year jail term to a man convicted of smuggling poppy husk.
The court of special judge Rajesh Kumar Gupta yesterday sentenced Rajasthan resident Vishnu Kumar Mali for smuggling poppy husk, public prosecutor P N Malakar said today.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Mali. In the event of Mali not paying the fine, he will have to undergo an additional year of imprisonment.
Mali was nabbed on June 18, 2017 from Ghoghatpur under the Machalpur police station limits. He said around 225 kilograms of poppy husk was recovered from Mali’s vehicles which was searched by the police following a tip-off.
While Mali was arrested, the other occupants of the vehicle managed to flee, officials said. A case was registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
