Bengaluru: A PhD research scholar has alleged that he was kicked out of a BMTC bus by its conductor because he spoke in Tamil.

It has been reported that, Karthik (30), resident of Vigyanapura, was standing at the foot board of a crowded bus. When the conductor asked him to move inside, Karthik replied in Tamil that he would be getting down at the next stop. This elicited a negative reaction from the conductor who called him a ‘Tamil guy’ and allegedly kicked him out of the bus at the CPRI stop.

The incident took place last Saturday afternoon when Karthik was going to the Indian Institute of Science, where he is pursuing his PhD in Chemistry. He claimed that even the passengers on the bus were of no help and were yelling at him when he refused to get down from the bus, owing to the actions of the conductor.

Later, while he was getting down, the conductor kicked his back side. Thus infuriated, Karthik directly went to the Sadashivanagar police station to complaint about the incident. Based on the information, the bus conductor was traced and summoned to the police station and the case is being investigated. A case of wrongful restraint (IPC 341), intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (IPC 504) and voluntarily causing hurt (IPC 323) have been registered.
