A man named Antoni Correa posted a video on TikTok showing himself giving a $-32.49 tip. He wrote, “Wrong food, waiting forever, rude waitresses, so sad.”
It is clear that Antoni was trying to have a joke. He wrote $-32.49 as a tip amount on a bill of $32.49.
The video went viral on social media and garnered more than 1 million views. Netizens expressed their disgust as it was unfair on the staff.
One person replied: “I don’t think that’s how it works. You still have to pay, my guy.” Another person said: “Sadly this doesn’t work.”
In a reply, one person said, “As a past waitress this makes me sad. I always tip even if there are issues. We are human, mistakes happen.”
“I mean, I do believe that tips should be based on service the waiter or waitress, but this is ridiculous,” said another.
Netizens felt it was unfair on the staff especially in the catering industry as tips can make up a large part of their wage.
