Kolkata: Police on Wednesday arrested a man who allegedly duped Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty into getting a Covid jab at a fake vaccination camp organised by him in Kolkata.
The man is said to have posed as an IAS officer and requested the actor-turned-politician to be present at the COVID-19 vaccination drive organised for transgenders and specially-abled persons.
Mimi herself got vaccinated at the camp inorder to encourage people to come forth and get vaccinated against the virus. However, she sensed something amiss when she did not receive a confirmation message from CoWIN and filed a complaint with the Kolkata Police.
“He said that he was running a special drive for transgenders and specially-abled persons and requested for my presence,” the MP said. “I took Covishield vaccine at the camp to motivate people for taking jabs. But I never received a confirmation message from CoWIN,” she said.
Based on her complaint, police arrested a man identified as Debanjan Dev.
“The accused was using a car with a blue beacon fake sticker,” the TMC MP added.
The police are now investigating the shots given to people and whether they were vaccines past their expiry date.
