Man held for poaching deer, four others escape

Shimoga: One person was arrested while trying to sell the meat of two deers hunted by him on Saturday, April 4.

Forest department officials in a raid at Kempinakoppa village near Kunasi in Shimoga taluk arrested Zameer Ahmad and seized two deer heads, two deer skins, eight deer legs.

Later, the officials raided a farmhouse and found four more deer skins, eight deer antlers and one gaur (Indian bison) horns.

Four other members of this illegal hunting gang escaped, they include the gang’s leader Hameed Ahmad, Chandru, Raghu and Santosh.

DFO Shankar, ACF Balachandra and RFOs Sanjay, Ravi and others were involved in this raid.

A case has been registered at the Aayanur Forest Office.
