Bengaluru: A 24-year-old unemployed man landed behind bars after he stabbed a cab driver to death to arrange money for his sister’s marriage.

The arrested is Veerendra of Challakere in Chitradurga district and a resident of Attibele in Bengaluru. The deceased is Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Hulimavu.

Nisar was found dead in his car at Tumbadi near Koratagere on February 3.

Veerenda worked in a supermarket but lost his job in March last year after the Covid-19 outbreak. However, he continued to live in Bengaluru. His sister’s marriage was scheduled for February 16 this year and with no money in hand, he hatched a plan to rent a car and sell it off after killing the driver.

On February 2, he hired Nisar’s cab, saying his sister and her fiance wanted to visit temples across the state. After renting the car Veerendra stabbed Nisar in the chest and tried to take his body out of the car. As there was a heavy movement of vehicles, he backed off and fled. Next day morning a passersby saw the body in the parked car and alerted police.

The police investigating the case finally cracked the case and arrested Veerendra.
