Man looks to sell furniture on FB; loses Rs 98k to cyber thieves

Bengaluru: A private company employee fell prey to cyber thieves and lost Rs 98,000 while wanting to sell furniture on Facebook.

The victim, Prabhakar Jaiswal (40) had in a Facebook post said that he was looking for potential buyers for his house furniture.

An unknown person called Prabhakar and evinced interest in buying the furniture. The caller said that he would send him a QR code and Prabhakar would receive advance money for the furniture upon scanning the QR code.

Prabhakar believed his words and scanned the QR code he received from that person. Shortly later he received a message that 98,000 rupees was debited from his bank account.

It was then that he realized he had been duped by cyber thieves.
