Mangaluru: Military Intelligence Unit in a joint operation with Mangaluru Police has arrested a man from Surathkal who had been posing as an Indian Army junior commissioned officer.
The arrested is identified as Manjunath Reddy.
The Indian Army in the press release informed that Manjunath was arrested from his rented house at Lord Krishna Estate in Surathkal. They recovered Indian Army uniform sets used by him along with a fake army identity card, dependent card and some fake army rubber stamps.
It is also gathered that Reddy is accused of posing as a junior commissioned officer of the rank Naib Subedar / Subedar / Subedar Major and had organised public events like felicitation ceremonies for retired Army personnel and gained the trust of the people. He had promised people jobs in the Army and collected money.
The press statement also warned people from being scammed by such imposters and added that Army selection is not done by means of paying money and no Army personnel will ask for money to provide direct recruitment order. It also urged people to use the right channel for Army recruitment which is only by registering online on www.joinindianarmy.gov.in
Manjunath has been booked under IPC Sections 171, 419 and 420 and the investigation with this is on.
