Uppinangady: A man who was expecting a mobile phone worth Rs 8,800 won for less than Rs 2,000 as a ‘lucky customer’, realized he had been duped when he received a package containing stale food.

Bhavani Shankar, who works as a security guard at a temple in Uppinangady, had purchased three Vivo mobile phones recently for his family members.

Later, he had received an SMS claiming that he had won an offer on a mobile phone worth Rs 8,800. The message said that as a special concession the mobile phone can be bought for Rs 1,785 as against the original price.

Believing that he had actually won the lucky prize, Bhavani Shankar collected the parcel by paying the amount at the Uppinangady post office on Monday. When he checked the contents of the package, however, he found out-of-date snacks in it.

There are suspicions that the customer details are being leaked to fraudsters. Sources said that the fraud has been committed in the name of an organization named ‘Akanksha Marketing’ registered in Bengaluru.
