Man suspects wife’s ‘character’, pours boiling oil on her

Bengaluru: In a heartrending incident, a 38-year-old auto driver assaulted his wife and threw boiling cooking oil on her.
He also threw the oil to his 13-year-old daughter when she came to her mother’s rescue who was unconscious.
Thomas, an alcoholic, was irregular at work and usually spent time at home. He used to often fight with his wife Anthoniyamma, 35, suspecting her character.
On the day of the incident also Thomas came home in an inebriated condition and fought with her, saying she was having an affair. But neighbors had intervened, and he had left home.
A few hours later he came back home when Anthoniyamma was watching TV and their daughter, was sleeping.
He then heated some cooking oil in the kitchen and assaulted his wife with a wooden piece. When she fell unconscious, he poured the oil on her.
When the daughter rushed to her mother’s rescue, Thomas poured oil on her as well.
According to police, Anthoniyamma sustained injuries on her face, chest, stomach, legs, and hands, while the daughter’s hands were injured. They were rushed to a hospital.
Anthoniyamma had to be hospitalized while her daughter was discharged after being treated as an outpatient.
Adugodi police have taken up a case of attempt to murder and assault and are on the lookout for Thomas.
