Man who moved into office cubicle as he couldn’t afford rent, fired after boss watches his viral videos

A man, who moved into his office cubicle for living full-time during the pandemic, was fired from work after his manager got wind of it from a viral TikTok video.

Chibuzor Ejimofor, who goes by the professional name Simon Jackson, explained how he turned his working cubicle into a living and sleeping room in order to live rent-free.

“I am moving from my apartment into my cubicle at work,” he said in a TikTok video that went viral earlier this week.
“Check out my new [apartment]” read the title of the video.
“Everyone’s working from home,” he explained, “so I just thought, why not move there?” he remarked of the office space he moved into.
Jackson followed up with a series of videos depicting his escapades in the corporate cubicle.
He told New York Post, “When I found my company had an empty office downtown, this was the perfect solution as it was close to all of the venues I frequent and it would be free,”
Further adding,  “They do not pay me enough to do both, so as a matter of protest, I am just going to live at my job, and we’ll see how long I can get away with this.”
Jackson’s agreement, it turns out, didn’t last very long.
Jackson received a call from the HR department of his firm, Arcadis, four days after the video was posted. He was told that if he didn’t clear his desk and delete his social media videos, he would be fired.
He decided to leave the company.

Jackson described his stunt as a “protest” meant to call attention to his inability to purchase a Seattle flat on his present pay.

He said, “I wish they approached the TikToks differently and maybe had a conversation with me about whether there was something more serious going on in terms of money,”

He further added, “But do I understand their response? 100 percent.”

“Due to privacy concerns relating to personnel information, the company is not at liberty to disclose any matters regarding current or former employees without express employee permission,” Arcadis told Insider in a statement.

Jackson stated that if he hadn’t made videos of his time in the office, he believed it would have “lasted indefinitely.”

He has subsequently moved into an Airbnb in Seattle.

Jackson is enthusiastic about building his personal brand after the video won him a large audience, even as he considers another office job.
